Scary Desk

Story-driven horror escape game built with Unreal Engine 5 Blueprints.

Overview

A story-driven horror escape game set in an abandoned office and hotel room of the 1900s. Typical horror mechanics like cutscenes, puzzles and atmospheric effects meet an escape-room structure. The player takes the role of a detective investigating a mysterious case.

Creative process

Story and implementation were built in Unreal Engine 5 Blueprints: puzzles, interactive objects (keys, letters, paintings) and trigger events. For atmosphere I recorded my own voice acting and ambient sounds, complemented by a phone scene with dynamic text dialogues. Visually I used post-processing, lighting and custom UI/HUD elements.

Result

An eerie single-player experience that combines storytelling, puzzle mechanics and horror atmosphere — including the letter sequence “To whoever reads this — and still breathes…”.

What I learned

Timing, sound and modular Blueprint work are crucial for functioning horror gameplay. A clear scope keeps a project of this size manageable.
