Lost Agent — 3D Animation

An animated scene on the edge of 80s anime, cyberpunk and sci-fi — inspired by Ghost in the Shell.

Overview

For the 3D animation course I created my own animation closely tied to the anime classic Ghost in the Shell (1995). The goal was to reinterpret key scenes in a modern 3D environment while blending 80s anime, cyberpunk and sci-fi. A moodboard served as the stylistic guide.

My role

  • Building a moodboard in PureRef
  • Selecting models and rigs for the character animation
  • Animation and scene setup in Blender
  • Sound design and finishing in DaVinci Resolve
  • Camera moves and motion dynamics via the graph editor (Bezier, ease in/out)
  • Rendering in Eevee, including the FreeStyle modifier for the toon look

Creative process

The animation was built scene by scene (standoff, landing, run, camera jump with distortion). The most rewarding part was combining a realistic 3D environment with an anime-inspired FreeStyle look.

Environment and blocking

Result

An atmospheric, visually striking animation that blends cyberpunk elements with classic anime aesthetics — supported by music and sound effects.

What I learned

From scene design to camera work, the project was an intensive dive into 3D animation. Blocking and testing different camera movements were especially valuable — and showed where more practice in render optimisation and graph-editor work is needed.
