The Wanderlust
One-minute music video for “Wanderlust” by Metric — hand-drawn characters and a narrative contrast.
Overview
The goal was to create a one-minute animation sequence for the song Wanderlust by Metric. The singer Emily was animated as a 2D drawing, while Lou Reed finds his way to the mountain in the chorus — a visual contrast between the two characters. My role covered concept development, 2D animation and post-production.
Creative process
I designed the characters as hand-drawn animations, developed the movement through frame-by-frame animation and combined it with digital image editing. Colour design and camera work reinforce the scene.
Result
The animation creates a strong visual contrast between the figures and supports the mood of the song through its stylised representation.
What I learned
Deeper experience in 2D animation techniques — and in using visual contrasts narratively.
